This poem erases part of Doctor’s Order Book, a diary kept by Dr. Melvin R. Link, Lieutenant (MC), US Navy, a medical officer on board the destroyer USS Walke. The erased portion records the events of the Walke’s 1945 deployment from San Francisco to Okinawa and its subsequent radar picket duty, a particularly dangerous and dreaded assignment.
